The house
A grand Marrakchi residence, an architect’s exacting eye.
Riad Zaouia 44 was restored with an architect’s eye for beauty, proportion and restraint. The house stands in the Zaouia el Abbassia quarter, one of the oldest in the Medina, near Bab Taghzout square — a neighbourhood quiet enough to hear the fountain from your room.

The garden patio
A garden at the centre,
and the life that gathers there.
Palm trees, orange trees, white roses: the patio of Riad Zaouia 44 is a true garden, planted and tended as one. Banquettes settle in the shade of the arcades, lanterns line the paths, and the pool — 16 m² of water — holds the centre of the composition.
In summer, the life of the house unfolds by the water, in search of coolness: you read there, lunch there, cool off there on the way back from the souks.

The lounges
Several lounges, all turned towards the patio.
When winter comes, the grand salon takes over from the garden: meals are set before the fireplace, beneath high painted-wood ceilings. Beside it, a quiet corner gathers books, board games and the makings of your days out — maps and reading on Marrakech and Morocco.
On winter evenings, you linger
by the fireside.
As evening falls
The house turns to candlelight.
At dusk the lanterns are lit along the paths and the pool becomes a mirror. It is the hour of the traditional hammam, carved in black tadelakt beneath its vaults.
The massage room
The hammam, black tadelakt and half-light.
Heat, steam, a black-soap scrub: the Marrakchi ritual unfolds by candlelight, in the half-light of the vaults. The adjoining massage room carries the care further — both are booked with the house, same day or ahead.

The terraces
Up on the roofs, the Medina and the Atlas for horizon.
At the very top, the terraces unfold their shaded lounges beneath pergolas and sails. At the bar, fresh fruit cocktails are made to the minute; the dining corner hosts breakfasts in the sun and dinners over the rooftops of Marrakech. In winter, when the patio turns cool, the roofs gather the light — sun-drenched from morning to evening.

Riad Zaouia 44 belongs to a small family of houses born of the eye of Sophie Raynal, an architect by training. The passing guest is received as a friend — that is the Chez Sophie spirit.
